Caryn Constantinides is an Austin-based painter and mother of two. A Graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art with a double major BFA in General Fine Arts and Graphic Design. Upon graduation she began working as a graphic designer but after 10 years, thrillingly returned to her painting practice.

Caryn’s work uses color, texture, and form to evoke emotion in the viewer. Currently, her practice focuses on the contrast between thin paint washes and thick applications of sand mixed paint. Her process involves building up paint layers and scraping them away to reveal the canvas beneath. Creating the repetition of lines and shapes becomes a meditative ritual for the painter. The combination of thick and thin layers allows the viewer to explore the relationship between foreground and background, soft colors and graphic lines.
